Buttafuoco Riserva “Pozzo della Tromba” is produced from vineyards under the tower, on a plot with full south exposure. The long experience allowed the winegrowers of Oltrepò Pavese to select indigenous varieties that are well suited to this environment and to codify the right proportions to achieve maximum results.
Buttafuoco is a unique wine of great structure and components that allow it to last intact for many years.
The blend of Buttafuoco is as follows: 50% Croatina that brings the polyphenolic structure, color and hints of red fruit; 25% Barbera form with its acidity the backbone of the wine and allows greater extraction from the pomace of Croatina; Finally, for the remaining part Ughetta Canneto and Uva Rara that enrich this wine with notes of elegance and pleasant austerity.
Mature and warm, with a robust body: to the nose is intensely perfumed, in the mouth is soft, round and persistent. Spicy notes of black pepper, aromatic herbs and aromatic notes of officinal herbs, reveals the long rest in barrique (24 months) and then in the bottle (12 months) yet, still, surprise the palate for its still very fresh with cleanly balanced tannins.
It is named after a medieval well built in the valley below Castana Castle. The well, now abandoned, has a chapel-like Roman structure where housewives could wash their clothes under the porch of the well itself. A hand pump shaped like a trumpet gave the name to the well which was used to pump the water.
